A Look At Some Of the Achievements Of Anambra State Aids Control Agency (ANSACA) IN The Outgoing Year 2017.

The Executive Director of ANSACA *Dr OnyekaChukwu Ibezim* has in the last few years of heading affairs of the AIDS fighting agency brought life back to hitherto moribund agency.

The ED in his prudence and commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS in Anambra State has recorded outstanding achievements in this outgoing year. Some of these fits were recorded as follows:

1. During the year ANSACA through World Bank Sponsored HPDP2 program reactivated local Agency For Control AIDS (LACA).

2. With the reactivation of LACA in Anambra state, the body which is saddled with responsibility of fighting HIV at the local government level established Testing and Counseling Centers in 21 LGA in the state.

3. Massive awareness, sensitization and information about HIV AIDS were embarked upon by ANSACA. As a result of availability of information about the disease more people voluntarily offered to be tested and get counseled on issues related to HIV, unlike before when people tend to run away on hearing about HIV/ AIDS test.

4. Through some of the awareness and sensitization programs of ANSACA there was noticeable reduced stigimatization of people living with the virus in the state.

5. An increased assess to Anti Retroviral Drugs for people living with HIV. This was made possible by ANSACA efforts in activating treatment centers and referring cases to General Hospitals where the drugs are readily available.

6. Significant reduction of Mother to Child Transmission Cases was recorded in the state. As a result of sensitization and awareness programs of ANSACA expectant Mothers were made to undergo testing and counseling which enabled health workers at different Heart To Heart Centers dectate positive cases and equally placed them on drugs to reduce the chances of infecting the unborn child to the virus.
