CARNAL MEN IN THE SPIRITUAL OFFICE.

Apostle Paul lamented over the Corinthian church, saying, “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” (1 Corinthians 3:3). Carnality refers to being governed by fleshly desires rather than the Spirit of God. When such men occupy spiritual offices, the result is confusion, abuse of authority, and misrepresentation of Christ.

A spiritual office is not a position of worldly honor but of divine responsibility (Acts 20:28). God requires that His servants be filled with the Holy Ghost, sound in doctrine, and examples to the flock (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:7–9). Carnal men, however, pursue self-glory, material gain, and the applause of men. They cannot truly feed the sheep, for the flesh cannot minister life in the Spirit (John 6:63).

The danger is evident: instead of building the church, they scatter it; instead of reflecting Christ, they project themselves. The Lord warns, “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” (Jeremiah 23:1).

Therefore, the church must discern and pray that only Spirit-filled men occupy spiritual offices. As Paul instructed Timothy, “Lay hands suddenly on no man” (1 Timothy 5:22). Leadership in God’s house belongs not to the carnal, but to those who walk by the Spirit and bear fruit worthy of the gospel (Galatians 5:22–25).
