Few days back, we visited a Primary Healthcare Centre during their routine immunisation exercise.
‎
‎While speaking with some parents, one father said he missed his child’s previous vaccination because they had gone to the farm.
‎
‎We gently reminded him that many parents today no longer take vaccination very seriously because many diseases are now rarely seen. But the reason we hardly see them is because vaccines are working.
‎
‎Take Polio for example. This disease can suddenly weaken a child’s muscles and cause permanent paralysis. Some children who were once running and playing ended up unable to walk for life because of polio.
‎
‎The good news is that this disease is preventable through vaccination, and the vaccine is available free at primary healthcare centres across Nigeria.
‎
‎Farming, trading, and daily struggles are part of life, but protecting our children must remain a priority.
‎
‎Missing a vaccination appointment may seem small today, but it can expose a child to a lifetime challenge.
‎
‎Let us take routine immunisation seriously. Protect every child. Complete every vaccine.
