Good health financing starts with good data.

Every decision on health spending should be backed by evidence, not assumptions. To support this, HSDF is providing technical assistance to strengthen the institutionalization of Health Accounts within Kaduna State's health sector.

Using the System of Health Accounts (SHA 2011), stakeholders are able to track how health resources are mobilized, spent, and distributed across government, households, health insurance, development partners, NGOs, and the private sector. This provides the evidence needed for better planning, budgeting, accountability, and resource allocation.

As part of efforts to advance the 2023–2025 Health Accounts exercise, stakeholders completed a five-day training to strengthen their capacity to collect, analyse, and report standardized health expenditure data using the Health Accounts Production Tool (HAPT).

By supporting routine Health Accounts production, HSDF is helping to strengthen evidence-based health financing decisions and build a more responsive health system in Kaduna State.

Day 2 of the Evidence-Based Annual Operational Planning (AOP) and Budget Alignment Capacity Building Workshop, facilitated by the Kaduna State Service Delivery Plan (KSSDP) project, focused on strengthening participants' ability to utilize the Kaduna Annual Operational Planning (AOP) Platform for planning, monitoring, and decision-making.

Through practical sessions led by Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, participants explored dashboard navigation and data visualization, system administration, data validation and quality assurance processes, and the review of Joint Annual Review (JAR) indicators to support the development of the 2026 JAR template.

By building technical capacity for data interpretation and use, Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation continues to support evidence-based planning, improved accountability, and stronger health sector performance in Kaduna State.

Evidence is essential for strengthening health systems and improving health outcomes.

To support Kaduna State's commitment to evidence-informed decision-making, HSDF partnered with the Kaduna State Ministry of Health to facilitate the development of a Health Research Agenda aligned with the State's priorities, emerging health challenges, and long-term development goals.

The two-day Health Research Agenda Setting Workshop convened policymakers, researchers, development partners, academia, professional associations, and implementing partners to review findings from stakeholder consultations and landscape assessments, identify priority research areas, and strengthen alignment around the State's research needs.

Discussions emphasized the importance of stronger research governance, improved data-sharing frameworks, enhanced research capacity, and greater use of evidence to inform planning, policy development, and service delivery.

Through its technical support and partnership with the Ministry, HSDF is helping to establish a coordinated, state-owned Health Research Agenda that will guide future research investments and contribute to improved health outcomes across Kaduna State.
