44 OYO ABDUCTEES FREED AS JOINT FORCES CRUSH TERROR NETWORK IN OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK

Ajeseku Hails Tinubu, Makinde, Security Agencies and Vigilantes for Surgical Rescue Mission

By AbdulHakeem Mutiu Adejumo-Ajeseku, Abuja-Nigeria

BTvNEWS: Forty-four pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026, have been rescued alive following a month-long, intelligence-driven joint operation that dismantled a violent terrorist network operating within the Old Oyo National Park and other parts of the country.

The rescue was concluded on July 10, 2026, and was led by troops of the Nigerian Army under the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Ibadan, Major General C.R. Nnebeife.

The mission was executed in close collaboration with Special Forces from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups including Amotekun, hunters, and community vigilantes.

According to military reports, the operation targeted terrorist kingpins, informants, and supply chains within the Old Oyo National Park. Multiple arrests were made across Oyo and other states, which disorganized the group and compelled the unconditional release of the abductees.

Officials confirmed that the operation was carefully executed to avoid collateral damage, though some security personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

The rescued students and teachers are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. Authorities said they will be handed over to the Oyo State Government for proper psychosocial care and eventual reunification with their families.

In a statement, Comrade AbdulHakeem Mutiu Adejumo-Ajeseku, Media, Political and Public Affairs Analyst and CEO of BTV Online TV Radio and Publication: Climate and Peacebuilding Reporters [BTV-CPR], commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his tireless efforts and strategic leadership.

“President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to securing the lives of Nigerians provided the political will and resources that made this successful operation possible. This is leadership in action,” he stated.

Adejumo-Ajeseku also lauded the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his steadfast support.

“Governor Makinde stood firmly with the people of Oyo and with our security forces. His cooperation and timely interventions helped create the enabling environment for this rescue,” he noted.

He further praised the synergy among the Armed Forces and security institutions.

“The synergy between the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Defence Headquarters, under the guidance of the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, shows what is possible when our institutions work as one,” the BTV Chief emphasized.

“The Police and intelligence community provided the actionable leads that guided the troops to the terrorists’ hideouts and logistics networks,” he added.

The BTV CEO gave special recognition to local security structures for their critical role.

“Our Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and community vigilantes proved that community policing works. They know the terrain, they know the people, and they were indispensable to this success,” he stressed.

Describing the rescue as a turning point, he said, “This is not just a rescue, it is a restoration of hope for the families and for the entire nation.”

Adejumo-Ajeseku called on Nigerians to support ongoing security efforts.

“Let us imbibe community policing. When you see something, say something, and do something,” he urged.

He concluded with gratitude to God.

“I give unreserved gratitude to God Almighty for answering the fervent prayers of Nigerians. Together with President Tinubu, Governor Makinde, and our gallant forces, we will secure Nigeria,” the media expert concluded.

44 OYO ABDUCTEES FREED IN OLD OYO FOREST SWEEP

Joint Military Operation Dismantles Terror Network, Arrests Kingpins Across Multiple States

By Our Correspondent, Oyo, Southwest-Nigeria.

BTvNEWS: Forty-four pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued unharmed following a month-long, intelligence-led joint security operation spearheaded by the Nigerian Army in the Old Oyo National Park and other parts of the country. The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, by terrorists who had established hideouts and logistics networks within the vast forest reserve.

The successful rescue was announced on July 10, 2026, after coordinated ground and air operations targeted the kingpins, informants, and supply chains sustaining the criminal group.

The operation was led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, in collaboration with special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser through the National Counter Terrorism Centre.

“This was a carefully planned and executed operation designed to avoid collateral damage while ensuring the safe return of every innocent child and teacher,” Major General Nnebeife said.

“The synergy between all security agencies and local stakeholders was critical to breaking the terrorists’ network,” he added.

In a statement of appreciation, Major General Nnebeife, on behalf of all participating agencies, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as strategic guidance and provision of resources that ensured the operation’s success.

“We sincerely appreciate Mr. President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support,” the GOC further stressed.

He also commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the people of the state for their continuous support to security agencies during the trying period.

Further gratitude was extended to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, other Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the Directors-General of the DSS and NIA for enabling seamless coordination.

Calling for public vigilance, the GOC urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

“We thank the media and the entire Nigerian populace for their faith in our security architecture. Together, we will safeguard lives and property across the nation,” he concluded.

According to military sources, the operation extended beyond Oyo State, with multiple arrests made in other states where the syndicate operated.

“We dismantled their command structure and cut off their logistics. That is what compelled their surrender,” a senior officer involved in the operation stated.

“Their health and safety remain our immediate priority,” an official familiar with the process noted.

The military confirmed that while the operation was largely successful, there were casualties recorded on the part of security forces.

All 44 rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. Authorities said they will be handed over to the Oyo State Government in due course for proper psychosocial support and eventual reunion with their families.

The Army assured Nigerians that further operations will be conducted to mop up remaining elements of the group and secure the region.
