Seven Tips to Improve Your Writing Skills
1. Read,Read and Read... The more you read, the more you come to know how other authors convey their message.
Read different styles and try to develop your own style.
2. Write daily.
Practice paves way for perfection. As you write more, you will enrich that skill.
Make writing a daily exercise.Just one paragraph, about something you are interested in.
3. Review your writing
As you read more and write at least one paragraph daily. Make sure to review your writing frequently.
You would find new ways or better ways you could have the same paragraph.Eventually, it would sound lot better than first version.
4. Try different contexts
Write about something random you think of or you see.
Take a message and try to build a short story around that.
Ensure your story clearly gives you message you intended.
5. Ensure your writing is Clear & Effective
Don't use unnecessary adverbs or prepositions.
Say exactly what you mean.
Choose your words wisely.
Use short sentences.
Use active voice, as it sounds more exciting.
6. Show the emotions
Rather than saying "Amani was angry after reading the letter",
Say - " Amani crumpled the letter and threw it into the fireplace before she stormed from the room"
Readers understand that she is angry.
7. Understand importance of outline.
Outline of what you have to write gives you big picture.
If you write the outline, break that into chapters or sub divisions.
