The closure of schools in response to the Covid-19 emergency is indeed a positive spread towards curbing the spread of infections. It also highlights the need to invest in the development of our schools and teachers across Nigeria.
The incorporation of technology should by now, be imbedded in our teaching and learning practices and rather than close completely, all schools should be able to transition to online learning modes.
The inability of many institutions to offer learning alternatives in emergency situations such as what we are facing today is in an indication that we have yet to evolve in our educational practices. Whether we accept it or not, this is 2020. The world has changed. The way students learn has changed. Their future jobs and careers have changed.
Education in Nigeria has to change to reflect the understanding of this new reality. It is indeed a global village people.- Dr. Angela Adamu.
