UNDERSTANDING BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES:
The three main battery technologies in the market today are: Li-ion, Li-Polymer, and Li-Fe-PO4. Each one have their own advantages and disadvantages, and which one is best for a particular application depends on several factors.
Li-ion batteries are currently the most widely used rechargeable batteries in various applications due to their high energy density, low self-discharge rate, and long cycle life. Li-polymer batteries are a type of Li-ion battery that uses a polymer electrolyte instead of a liquid electrolyte. This type of battery offers several advantages such as flexibility in size and shape, low profile design, and low weight. Li-polymer batteries also have a high energy density and a long cycle life. However, Li-polymer batteries have some disadvantages such as high cost, safety issues, and they require protection circuits to maintain their voltage and prevent overcharging or discharging.
Li-Fe-PO4 batteries, also known as lithium iron phosphate batteries, are a type of Li-ion battery that uses an iron phosphate cathode. This type of battery offers several advantages such as high safety, long cycle life, and a relatively low cost compared to other Li-ion batteries. Li-Fe-PO4 batteries also have a low self-discharge rate and can operate over a wide range of temperatures. However, Li-Fe-PO4 batteries have a lower energy density compared to other Li-ion batteries, which means they can store less energy in the same physical space.
In summary, the best battery system for a particular application depends on the specific requirements of that application. Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries are suitable for applications that require high energy density and long cycle life, while Li-Fe-PO4 batteries are suitable for applications that require high safety and a relatively low cost.
