MUSLIM LAWYERS' ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (MULAN)
National Headquarters, Abuja
PRESS STATEMENT
The Muslim Lawyers' Association of Nigeria (MULAN) expresses profound shock and deep concern over the gruesome killing of the Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, and his companion in Benue State.
This tragic incident, reportedly occurring shortly after the deceased attended a peace and security meeting, is deeply disturbing and represents a grave assault on the sanctity of human life and the collective efforts towards restoring peace and security in communities affected by recurring violence.
MULAN unequivocally condemns this heinous act and extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the leadership of MACBAN and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants the departed eternal mercy, comforts their loved ones and grants the injured complete recovery.
We call on the Federal Government, the Government of Benue State and all relevant security and law enforcement agencies to conduct a prompt, thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this killing and ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The rule of law demands that no individual should be deprived of life through violence or extra-judicial means, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, occupation or social status. Equally, those invited to peace and security engagements must have confidence that such engagements are safe and conducted in an atmosphere that promotes dialogue rather than fear.
MULAN reiterates that justice is indispensable to sustainable peace. Ending impunity, protecting lives and strengthening public confidence in lawful institutions remain essential steps towards addressing the cycle of violence affecting several communities across the country.
We therefore urge all stakeholders to remain calm, refrain from reprisals or inflammatory rhetoric and allow the relevant authorities to carry out their constitutional responsibilities while ensuring that justice is done and seen to be done.
As an Association committed to the promotion of justice, the rule of law and peaceful coexistence, MULAN reaffirms its readiness to support all lawful efforts aimed at fostering national unity, protecting fundamental rights and promoting lasting peace across Nigeria.
May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant the deceased Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad and his companion Al-Jannah Firdaus, comfort their families and preserve our nation in peace and justice.
