Nimbe Adedipe Library Organises Medical Check-Up for Staff
The Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has organised a medical check-up programme for its staff. The exercise is scheduled to hold on Monday, April 14, 2026, in collaboration with a medical research team sponsored by TETFund. The programme will commence at 8:00 a.m.
Speaking on the initiative, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi, emphasised that “health is wealth,” noting the importance of staff being aware of their medical conditions in order to take appropriate health decisions. He further explained that his interest in organising the programme was influenced by his academic background, having completed his PhD in Medical Informatics. According to him, medical errors remain a significant challenge, particularly in developing countries such as Nigeria, and increased awareness through regular health checks is essential.
Professor Abayomi added that various medical tests will be conducted and necessary medications provided free of charge to staff. He expressed his long-standing desire to implement such an initiative, drawing from his experiences during his doctoral research.
In her remarks, the Welfare Chairperson of the library, Mrs Deborah Ologun, commended the University Librarian for the initiative, describing it as a laudable effort and possibly the first of its kind in university libraries across Nigeria.
The University Librarian also extended his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Kehinde, the Director of the University Health Centre, Dr Seyi Ajorin, and TETFund for their support and sponsorship of the medical research team that will carry out the exercise.
