Let’s Bring NERTI to Life!

Our environment is in a race against time, and we need the right tools to win. That tool is the National Environmental Research and Training Institute (NERTI).

The visionary bill for NERTI was already passed by the 9th National Assembly. Now, it’s time for the 10th Assembly to reintroduce and revisit this crucial bill without delay.

NERTI will be more than an institution; it will be our national hub for climate science, pollution solutions, and training a new generation of environmental champions. It will provide the data-driven policies we urgently need to tackle erosion, flooding, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

We call on our Honourable legislators to make this a priority. Let us build this legacy of environmental resilience and innovation for Nigeria. The foundation was laid; let’s complete the building.

THE REINTRODUCTION OF THE NERTI Bill IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

To all esteemed stakeholders, environmental advocates, and concerned citizens,

I humbly request your support in advocating for the reintroduction of the National Environmental Research and Training Institute (NERTI) Bill in the National Assembly. Although the 9th National Assembly passed this crucial bill and forwarded it to the President, unfortunately, it did not receive assent.

The NERTI Bill is a vital legislation that aims to:

- Establish a premier research and training institute for environmental management
- Promote sustainable development and eco-friendly practices
- Enhance Nigeria's capacity to address environmental challenges

By supporting the reintroduction of the NERTI Bill, we can:

- Revitalize efforts towards a greener, more sustainable future
- Ensure Nigeria's alignment with global environmental standards
- Empower the next generation of environmental leaders and innovators

Let us join forces to make our voices heard and urge the National Assembly to reintroduce the NERTI Bill. Together, we can create a better future for our nation and the planet.

Support the NERTI Bill. Support a sustainable Nigeria.

THE NEED TO REVISIT THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING INSTITUTE BILL (NERTI)
By Kenneth Udoumeh

The need to revisit the National Environmental Research and Training Institute (NERTI) bill is becoming increasingly urgent as the world faces unprecedented environmental challenges. In today's rapidly changing and interconnected world, the environment is under threat like never before. Climate change, deforestation, pollution, and loss of biodiversity are just some of the pressing issues that require immediate attention and action.

The NERTI bill was first proposed as a way to establish a national research and training institute dedicated to addressing environmental issues in the country. The bill aimed to create a centralized body that would conduct research, provide training, and develop policies to protect the environment. However, despite its noble intentions, the bill has not yet been passed into law, leaving a critical gap in the country's ability to address environmental challenges effectively.

One of the primary reasons why the NERTI bill needs to be revisited is the urgent need for evidence-based policies and actions to protect the environment. Research plays a crucial role in understanding environmental issues, identifying solutions, and informing policy decisions. Without a dedicated research institute like NERTI, policymakers and stakeholders are left without the critical information they need to make informed decisions about the environment.

Moreover, a national institute like NERTI would also play a crucial role in building the capacity of professionals and stakeholders to address environmental challenges. Training programs on sustainable practices, environmental conservation, and climate change mitigation are essential to ensure that individuals and organizations have the knowledge and skills needed to protect the environment effectively. By providing training and capacity-building opportunities, NERTI would help to empower a new generation of environmental leaders and advocates.

Furthermore, the establishment of NERTI would also help to streamline environmental research and policymaking in the country. Currently, environmental research and policy efforts are fragmented and dispersed among various government agencies, research institutions, and civil society organizations. A centralized institute like NERTI would serve as a hub for coordination, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, ensuring that efforts to protect the environment are more coherent and effective.

In addition, the NERTI bill could also help to improve the country's standing on the global stage when it comes to environmental issues. As a signatory to various international agreements and conventions on the environment, the country has a responsibility to fulfill its obligations and commitments. A dedicated research and training institute like NERTI would demonstrate the country's commitment to protecting the environment and complying with international standards and best practices.

Overall, the need to revisit the NERTI bill is critical to ensure that the country is better equipped to address environmental challenges effectively. By establishing a national institute dedicated to environmental research and training, policymakers, professionals, and stakeholders would have the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to protect the environment for future generations. The time to act is now, before it's too late.
