The Greater Aba Development Authority has finalized the restoration of the ancestral communities of Akoli Aba and Umuosi from age-long environmental degradation.
For over 30 years, these communities, right in the heart of the ancient Aba la Ohazu, were left to rot, with houses submerged and people fleeing, while the neighbourhood was converted into a dump site.
The State Government, through GADA, has recovered the area, levelled and cleared thousands of tons of mountainous refuse, and constructed the trio of Umuosi, Ihuoma, and Ukaumunna roads, thereby easily connecting the tail end of Ibadan Street to Ohanku Road and further enhancing good road access and interconnectivity.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has continued the evacuation of the highest mountain of refuse in Aba, Abia State.
From the information we gathered, this place is a residential neighborhood and the ancestral community of Umuosi and Akoli Aba people in Aba South and was converted to a dumping ground and unapproved landfill. The refuse has been here for more than 40 years. Almost every one living in this part of Ohanku and Ngwa road come here to dump their waste.
As we covered this evacuation, more than 100 trucks have lifted waste and still counting. Our team had to use nose mask, hand gloves and boots in order to capture this video as the area was really terrible. The roads there are also being constructed.
