The Ministry of Public Enterprises is calling for members of the professional community to serve on the boards of public enterprises.

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY TO SERVE AS A BOARD OF DIRECTOR ON A PUBLIC ENTERPRISE BOARD:

1. Integrity: The Ministry is looking for people of character with strong principles of integrity, transparency and accountability. Potential board members for Public Enterprises should have a powerful sense of patriotism and dedication to serve in the best interest of the relevant entity and the people of Namibia in a nonpartisan and selfless manner.

2. Experience: The Ministry is looking for directors who have relevant experience, who have senior leadership experience or who have served as a director on other boards both public and/or private.

3. Qualification: Applicants will be required to have completed a Bachelors Honour’s Degree in any discipline. Alternatively applicants must have obtained some professional qualifications or membership of professional institutions which may also be taken as equivalent to a first degree if accompanied by relevant work experience. Relevant professional experience will also be considered on merit as a substitute for academic qualifications.

4. Strategic Skills: Applicants should possess strategic thinking skills, problem solving skills, leadership skills and understanding of the latest management techniques critical for board members.

5. Interpersonal Skills: Applicants must have good interpersonal skills to interact with other board members, enterprises and the shareholder/s in a professional manner, especially when discussing sensitive or controversial topics. Applicant should also have good negotiation skills, ability to ask questions, make recommendations and to disagree with others without alienating themselves from other board members.

CRITERIA TO APPLY:

Applicants must be:

• Namibian, 18 years and older

• Provide a motivation on why YOU want to serve as a board member

• Submit a full CV

• Applicants must have no criminal record

• Be mentally fit and in good health standing

• Must have a good command of the official language (spoken and

written)

• Applicant must not be disqualified in terms of the establishing Act or the constituent document or the articles of association and statues of association of the Public Enterprise

• Applicant is not disqualified in terms of the Companies Act,2004 (Act No. 28 of 2004) from being appointed as a director of a company

The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service presents the National Youth Development Seminar on the theme "Putting Youth at the Heart of Development."

The Youth are identified as a major stakeholder in the development of the country and thus the government is creating platforms for them to be heard!
