✨ Aya has found herself a little slice of heaven with Sonia and family out on the farm. She is settling into her new surroundings, getting to know her furry brother, and taking things at her own pace.

✨ Nelly is beginning her happy ever after on a small plot with her new canine companion. We hear she has already claimed the couch as her throne and is settling in wonderfully! Thank you, Gustav, for choosing adoption.

✨ Duchess and little Choco stayed closer to home, so close in fact that they walked to their new home over the weekend! Stella and her family met them at the end of May and instantly clicked with the pair. Thankfully, these two enjoy each other’s company, making the transition to family life that much easier.

To everyone who chooses adoption: thank you. Every animal adopted from our shelter gets a second chance, and every adoption opens the door for us to help another animal in need.

Brasilië se howe stuur ’n sterk boodskap oor diereregte nadat ’n belangrike regsbesluit bepaal het dat honde en katte nie bloot as eiendom beskou moet word nie, maar as wesens wat pyn, emosies en lyding kan ervaar. Die uitspraak gee verdere gewig aan bestaande wette teen dieremishandeling en kan strenger optrede teen oortreders ondersteun.

Regskenners meen die besluit kan ’n groot invloed hê op toekomstige sake oor dieremishandeling, toesig oor troeteldiere en dierewelsyn in die algemeen. Dit weerspieël ook ’n wêreldwye tendens waar lande toenemend erken dat troeteldiere meer as besittings is en dat hulle spesiale wetlike beskerming verdien.

Brasilië het reeds in onlangse jare sy dieremishandelingswette verskerp. Onder die sogenaamde Sansão-wet kan mense wat honde en katte mishandel gevangenisstraf van twee tot vyf jaar, boetes en selfs ’n verbod op toekomstige troeteldierbesit in die gesig staar.

Die vraag is nou: Sal meer lande dieselfde pad volg en troeteldiere amptelik as voelende wesens eerder as besittings erken?
