▪️Cacao seeds got so valuable that the Aztecs used them as their currency because they were considered to be a gift from the god of wisdom, Quetzalcoatl.

▪️One of the richest and most powerful individuals in history was Motecuhzoma Xocoyotzin, also known as Montezuma II, the nineth emperor of the Aztecs. "The Chocolate King" was another name for him. He had nearly one billion cacao beans in his possession at the height of his reign.

▪️Legend has it that the god Quetzalcoatl introduced cacao to earth but was expelled from heaven for giving it to people. He sprinted away, promising to come back one day as a "fair-skinned bearded guy to preserve the earth."

▪️The Aztecs raised the bar for chocolate adoration. They exchanged cocoa beans for food and other items. Cacao beans were regarded as being more valuable than gold in Aztec civilization.

▪️Who would’ve thought chocolates would be so valuable, right? But one thing for sure, chocolates are definitely valuable for my taste buds! 😋

400 COCOA BEANS?! 🤯

▪️Chocolate is made from the seed of a fruit tree. It takes approximately 400 cocoa beans, which grow in pods, to make one pound of chocolate. That’s a lot of cocoa beans, right? 😮

▪️The cacao trees grow between 15 and 25 feet tall, and each tree typically yields 2,500 cacao beans annually. There are trees that can go much taller in the wild. Because they are "understory" trees, larger trees must surround them to provide protection.

▪️ Other than that, a cacao tree's initial crop of beans cannot be harvested for four to five years. Although some cocoa trees can survive for over 200 years, the majority only produce marketable beans for roughly 25 of those years.
