Jon Lee envisioned Penrose with a perfect balance of design and functionality. The entrance, with its steampunk feel, leads into a minimalist space that seats just 25 people, putting the bartender at the center of the experience.

The long, narrow layout encourages connection, with most seating along the bar counter. The dim lighting creates a cozy atmosphere, while the minimalist, near brutalist design feels surprisingly warm and inviting.

The Duo

Chef Soh Yong Zhi and Chef Lee Zhe Xi, the creative minds behind Eat and Cook’s groundbreaking Malaysian-style omakase, are back with their latest venture, Bar.Kar KL.

Their journey began with a shared passion for the restaurant industry, gaining hands-on experience through part-time work whenever they had a chance. After graduation, they went their separate ways but always dreamed of creating a space together.

The pandemic brought them back in touch, and that dream became a reality. Bar.Kar KL is their vision brought to life—a place where innovation and collaboration take center stage.
