A celebration of ASEAN heritage through the language of songket, Achiek Waves is one of a series of textile art pieces inspired by the diverse cultures of the region.
Completed in 2014 and installed at Menara CIMB (CIMB Malaysia), KL Sentral, the work draws inspiration from the iconic Acheik designs of Amarapura, Myanmar, traditionally worn as the male paso and female htamein. Reinterpreted in handwoven songket, it reflects the rich cultural connections that weave across ASEAN.
Designed by Dr June Ngo (June Ngo) in collaboration with Cult Gallery (CULT Gallery), and handwoven by Syamimi Razali using metallic Lurex threads on fine filament silk, Achiek Waves is a tribute to craftsmanship, cultural exchange, and CIMB’s presence across the region.
