Puan Suraya Bujang of PurpleLily Social Association Kuching attended the CMUH-UNIMAS Health Symposium 2026 themed “The Metabolic Tsunami: Modern Strategies for Mechanism Driven Obesity Management” held at The Hilton Hotel, Kuching on Saturday, 23 May 2026.

The symposium highlighted obesity as one of the most pressing public health challenges in Malaysia, with increasing impact on healthcare costs, productivity, and overall quality of life. Discussions emphasized that obesity is not merely an individual issue, but a complex condition requiring comprehensive and interdisciplinary collaboration involving healthcare providers, policymakers, educators, communities, and the food industry.

Among the key takeaways were the urgent need for:
• Early intervention and preventive strategies
• Greater public awareness and community education
• Healthier food environments and responsible industry practices
• Holistic and mechanism-driven approaches in obesity management
• Stronger collaboration across sectors to address the growing metabolic health crisis
