Is ECRL Bossku’s Project?

Short answer: It depends what you mean by “credit.”

If we look at the facts and timeline of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL):

1️⃣ Who initiated it?
• The ECRL was proposed and signed in 2016 under the administration of Najib Razak (often referred to as DSNR).
• It was part of his broader Belt and Road Initiative cooperation with China.
• The original cost was around RM65 billion.

2️⃣ What happened after?
• In 2018, when Mahathir Mohamad returned as PM, the project was suspended.
• It was later renegotiated, with the cost reduced significantly (to around RM44 billion).
• Alignment changes were made (e.g., realignment through Negeri Sembilan instead of Bentong).
👉 So the continuation and restructuring happened under a different administration.

3️⃣ Who completes it?
• Construction continued under multiple governments (PH, PN, Unity Government).
• The project is expected to be completed in phases around 2026–2027.
