The red color of the berries is thought to symbolize the wounds that Jesus Christ made on the cross and the sacrifice that he made for mankind. Holly flowers also symbolises defense, this is due to their pointy leaves.

Birth-flower for March is Daffodil which can be identified as conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white and yellow (also orange or pink in garden varieties), with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona. Daffodils symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings. It became associated with new beginnings (and the coming of spring) because it is one of the first perennials to bloom after the winter frost. Though daffodils do grow in shades of white and orange, they are best known for brightening up the garden with their cheery yellow hues.
