🔺🇮🇩 The Coalition of Agriworkers International (CAWI), representing agricultural workers across the globe in our shared struggle for workers' rights, stands in full solidarity with the striking nickel workers of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Since July 14, 2025, members of the Mining and Energy Industry Workers Union (SBIPE) Bantaeng have launched a strike against PT. Haudi Nickel Alloy to protest blatant labor violations, including unpaid overtime wages, unilateral mass layoffs, forced unpaid leave, and wages that fall below Indonesia's legal minimum standards.
Indonesia produces more nickel than any other country in the world—a mineral highly sought after by developed nations, particularly the United States and China, for manufacturing electric vehicle batteries and electronic components. Companies like PT. Huadi Nickel Alloy, which produces ferro nickel for stainless steel as part of Indonesia's National Strategic Plan, generate profits from these essential resources. Yet while global corporations and government-backed enterprises prosper, the workers who extract and process these materials face exploitation and poverty wages.
CAWI demands immediate action to address these violations of worker rights:
đź”´dialogue between the union representatives and PT. Haudi Nickel Alloy;
đź”´compensation for unpaid wages;
đź”´implementation of living wage standards;
đź”´and evaluation of the impacts of all National Strategic Programs to workers.
We condemn the Indonesian government's complicity in the imperialist exploitation of both natural resources and labor. We support the Indonesian peoples' struggle for social justice and people-centered development. # # #

The Coalition of Agricultural Workers International (CAWI) denounces the Trump regime’s oppressive migrant deportation policy, which has subjected thousands of agricultural workers to increased vulnerability to abuse and rights violations.
CAWI calls for an immediate halt to Trump’s migrant deportation policy, as it fails to solve the issue of migration and only exacerbates racial discrimination experienced by migrant workers in the US. Without addressing the root causes of forced migration – landlessness, joblessness, and low wages – peoples from the Global South will continue to risk everything by working in rich countries like the US despite draconian deportation policies.
