椰子是夏季成熟的水果，椰子适宜生长在热带，它是一年四季都有挂果的，但成熟最好吃的时候是在6—8月份，椰子树对于生长环境具有一定的要求，处在高温、多雨、阳光充足和海风吹拂的生长环境下发育得会比较好，而且椰子对光照的需求量非常大，每月平均要达到120个小时，否则会影响椰子的生长发育。
椰子含有丰富的维生素C、维生素B、氨基酸以及复合多糖等物质，具有促进细胞再生长、甘甜解暑的作用，它的果肉可以食用，汁水可以饮用，其果肉还可以用于提炼椰子油，加工处理成椰蓉、椰酥等。
椰子性平，其果肉具有补虚强壮、益气祛风、消疳杀虫的功效，经常使用可以起到益人气力、润泽肌肤等作用，它的汁水对于暑热类渴、津液不足等症状也可以起到一定的作用。
