Government Supports Skills Training in Chitipa

Minister of Labour, Skills and Innovation Joel Chigona says the government wants to help more Malawians get job skills, especially in small and informal jobs.

He said this while visiting a new motorcycle repair workshop being built at Kasama Technical College in Chitipa.

Chigona asked people with technical skills to join training courses. He said getting a certificate will help them do their work better and get better jobs. This is part of the government’s plan to train one million skilled workers to help people earn more and grow the country’s economy.

College Principal Kondwani Nyirongo said the workshop will let people in Chitipa get their motorcycles fixed by trained mechanics. He said this is important because more people in the area now use motorcycles.

Senior Chief Mwaulambya thanked the government for helping technical colleges. He said he will encourage more young people in the area to join the training programs.

The World Bank is funding the workshop through the TEVET program and it should be ready in June.
