Petrol price drops by K463

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) has dropped the petrol by K463 per litre and maintained diesel prices effective today May 8,2026. Petrol is now selling at K6,209 per litre from K6,672 representing a 6.94 percent decrease while diesel has been maintained at K6,687 per litre.

8 killed in South Africa road crash

Authorities have confirmed that eight died on the spot while 44 others sustained injuries when a Monorurama bus commuting from Malawi to Cape Town was involved in a serious accident at Tritchard in South Africa last night. A Kenyan who survived the accident said that the brakes on the bus failed. The accident follows another that claimed 17 lives in Zimbabwe recently.
