Another good morning at the jetty. Super crowded so I only had a few casts before I had to get off the jetty. Luckily, I managed to get this nice Black Jack (Caranx lugubris) to bite before that. The trick I’ve found with black jacks is to prevent them from going broadside and using their wide body in the current. I just held on to the spool and let my long rod do the fighting. This worked well to keep the fish off the reef edge. If it was bigger or got hooked from deeper in the water column, I don’t think I would’ve been able to land it.
