The Change Agent

Looking back at our celebration last week, we wanted to share a little insight into why we chose such a special location.
At The Change Agent Malta, change is at the heart of everything we do. But when we look back at our heritage, it’s clear that change - and our ability to adapt - has always been part of our story.
The beautiful Għaqba Windmill is a testament to that. Having withstood the test of time, it once played a vital role in supporting the local community and has recently been lovingly restored, ready for its next chapter.
The evening reflected that same spirit of reinvention. Even the menu - carefully designed by - paid homage to our roots with traditional Maltese flavours reimagined through unexpected twists.
A perfect reminder that honouring the past and embracing the future can go hand in hand.

This week was a truly special one for our team as we celebrated three years of The Change Agent Malta and one year of Fractional HR Malta, surrounded by our valued clients, trusted collaborators, and the incredible people who support us behind the scenes.
We were delighted to welcome everyone to the beautiful rooftop of the Tal-Għaqba Windmill for an evening of connection, reflection, and celebration.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and, most importantly, to everyone who has been part of our journey over the past three years. We simply wouldn't be here without your trust and support.
Here are just a few moments from the evening — we'll be sharing more photos next week!
A heartfelt thank you also goes to Farsonsdirect for sponsoring the event, the Naxxar Local Council for the fascinating guided tour of the beautifully restored windmill, and our fantastic event organiser, Adrian Grech Events, for helping make the evening such a memorable one.

High performance isn’t a happy accident. It’s a deliberate design.
In 2026, the "brain drain" in Malta is a reality that every HR leader is fighting. Finding talent is a challenge, but keeping your best people and being asked to do more with less? That’s the real battle.
Teams don't stay for the perks, they stay for the culture. Specifically, a culture of psychological safety and continuous growth.
Join us for an exclusive morning to move past outdated spreadsheets and annual reviews. We’re bringing together four experts to help you operationalise your culture:
🔸Olivia Bilocca on creating the conditions for trust and ownership.
🔸Jonathan Camilleri on the tools that make performance enablement practical.
🔸Elaine Dutton on the power of employee listening.
🔸Daniel Cassar leading a hands-on diagnostic of your organisation.
📅 Wednesday, 17 June | 09:00 - 12:30

“𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗲.” It sounds dramatic until you look at the stories of Kodak and Netflix.
Kodak invented the digital camera, yet struggled to move away from the model that had made them successful for decades. Netflix, on the other hand, continuously reinvented itself… from DVD rentals to streaming, and then into content production.
The difference wasn’t intelligence or capability. It was the willingness to embrace change before it became unavoidable.
And this is where many organisations still struggle today.
Because organisational change isn’t only about strategy, systems, or technology. 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚. It’s about helping teams move through uncertainty, resistance, fear, and ambiguity, while still creating enough clarity to move forward together.
Leaders often underestimate this part.
People rarely resist change simply because they dislike change. More often, they resist what feels unclear, unsafe, or disconnected from purpose.
The organisations that navigate change best are not necessarily the ones with the loudest vision. They are the ones that communicate clearly, involve their people early, and create cultures where adaptation feels possible rather than threatening.
In a world changing as rapidly as ours, adaptability is no longer optional. The question is no longer whether change is coming - It’s whether your people are ready to move with it.

A month on from our latest 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 workshop with Ethical Living by Olivia Bilocca and Dr Elaine Dutton, one thing still stands out: how many leaders are carrying conversations they know they need to have but are unsure how to approach.
Whether it’s addressing performance, managing tension, or giving honest feedback, difficult conversations are part of leadership. But that doesn’t make them easy.
What made this workshop special was the openness in the room. Honest reflection, practical discussion, and leaders willing to step into discomfort in order to grow.
We're already looking forward to the next edition of Navigating Tough Conversations this autumn.
If this is an area you or your team are navigating, we’d love to see you there.
More information will be out soon. Follow our page for upcoming details and registrations.

The way we work is changing... quietly, but fundamentally.
The past 20 years have already seen major shifts in workforce expectations. Yet AI and related technological advancements are positioned to question the very nature of how - and, importantly, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.
Elaine Dutton, PhD founder of Fractional HR Malta and The Change Agent Malta, will be hosting a session at the upcoming FHRD Conference 𝗛𝗥 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗: 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, exploring the rise of the “unbundled workforce” and what it means for businesses navigating the future of work 👀

Thank you to FHRD and Karen Muscat Baldacchino for this opportunity to share the stage with a host of fantastic speakers - we’re looking forward to it!
See you in October!

Important reminder 💡 We often focus on developing the individual leader with more skills, more tools and more resilience. But leadership doesn’t operate in isolation. It’s shaped (and sometimes limited) by the system around it.
We see this often in organisations: Capable leaders, strong intent… but environments that pull them back into caution, overthinking, or reactivity.
That’s why leadership development needs to go beyond the individual.
It’s about:
• Understanding the patterns at play
• Creating the conditions for better leadership to emerge
• And having the conversations that shift how the system operates
Tools like the Leadership Circle Profile help make these patterns visible. Not just for individuals, but across teams.
Because real progress happens when both the leader and the environment evolve together.
If you’re investing in leadership development in 2026, it’s worth asking — are you developing individuals, or the system they operate in?
We work with leadership teams to do both.

Effort matters. Environment often matters more.
You can sharpen your skills, strengthen your mindset, expand your capacity—and still feel like progress is slow. Not because you’re incapable, but because the system around you is either amplifying your leadership… or quietly constraining it.
Leadership development isn’t only personal.
It’s systemic.
It requires 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:
𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺? 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘰𝘪𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰. 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱. 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽:
𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴. 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘳𝘶𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯.
Great leadership isn’t just about becoming better. It’s about building better conditions.
