A special post today dedicated to those living in my home country of Malta :)

I've been seeing many, many posts on Maltese Facebook groups such as Mental Health in Malta and Women for Women consisting of people sharing how fed up they are of living in . Having lived there for the majority of my adult life, I can understand completely. Malta may be an idyllic vacation spot for some, with its gorgeous beaches, delicious food and plenty of culture and history, but for us it can feel claustrophobic and stressful, endless traffic, people, cranes and buildings, people being rude and impatient, the cost of living increasingly exponentially, the workplace environments becoming more and more demanding to the point where you're hardly left with any time for yourself and your life.

We can have a strong desire to leave our country, leave our jobs, leave a relationship - and yet not do so. It can be very scary to think about leaving your family and the place you call home, leaving what safe and familiar behind. But that is the price we pay for moving outside of our comfort zone and having the courage to take a risk to move towards the direction of our desires. If we let fear take over, we get stuck, caught between in what we know and what we want, we become anxious, start overthinking everything and thinking up ideas of why this or that won't work or is a bad idea.

We forget that all change is good change :) Either the change helps us to grow and be more fulfilled in life, or else it throws some curveballs at us, testing our capacity to grow and adapt to new challenges and situations. Yet, how do we keep grounded and embrace change? How do we learn to master our discomfort and learn to actually enjoy moving out of our comfort zone? How do I get myself to do what it actually is that I want to do, instead of continuing what is safe or familiar?

Learning to meditate, of course, is an important tool to have in your personal toolbox of life skills. Meditatin helps us to cultivate a mindset where we don't divide anything as 'good' or 'bad', but look at our life experiences in a more detached way, where we don't identify with them, but learn to stand back and keep a clear head, not taking things too personally, and understanding that often, there's more to life than what it may seem, and the biggest, craziest seeming idea you may have, might just turn out to be better than you ever could have imagined.
