Façade engineering is all about precision you rarely see.
The substructure that holds the façade is often hidden behind finishes, yet it has to carry loads, allow for tolerances, and integrate seamlessly with the architecture.

Townhouses in areas of Malta that were bombed during the war are full of surprises, you never quite know what’s hiding behind the walls until you start uncovering them.

The steel canopy at the Ecohive complex in Magħtab is steadily taking shape.
More than half of the elements in the main structure have been reused from the original canopy in Marsascala; a practical step towards reducing waste and giving materials a second life.

WIP: a structural upgrade within a traditional Valletta townhouse. The photo shows our solution for adding a double-height penthouse while respecting the limitations of the building.
Projects like these require careful coordination between design, fabrication, and site ex*****on, and we genuinely enjoy the challenge of working within historic contexts like this.

Work is underway on the extension of a hotel in St. Julian's. The existing five-story building will have an additional five floors constructed above, using steel sections and composite slab decking. We have carefully designed and optimized the connections between all new steel structural elements.

Works in progress: We are currently working on a project with Perit Claudia Calleja that involves transforming an old townhouse into a fresh, modern space. While the building itself will be getting a complete overhaul, we're preserving a key piece of its history - the beautiful stone staircase. Stay tuned for more updates as this project unfolds!

❕We need your opinion❕
We're sharing two staircase designs which integrate shelving into the staircase. Our studio was commissioned to carry out the structural design and find various solutions to bring the architect's visions to life.
Which staircase design do you prefer?
1️⃣ Design A: Structure made of square sections
2️⃣ Design B: Structure made of flat plates
Your feedback is valuable to us, so please let us know your choice in the comments below. 😊

In the photo, you can see stud connectors welded to the top fl**ge of a steel beam. The combined thickness of the precast panel and concrete topping will only be 12cm and will manage to support the weight of props which will in turn support another concrete slab above. This intervention was carried out on an existing building in Malta as a replacement for a traditional slab constructed using steel beams and "xorok." The xorok will still be visible from the bottom; however, the slab will have an increased load capacity.
We opted to use Predalle for this project to leave a gap between the xorok and the concrete, thereby not imposing any loads on the xorok since they are brittle.
This strategic choice helps preserve the structural integrity and aesthetics of the traditional xorok while significantly enhancing the overall load-bearing capacity of the slab.
