The promotion of entrepreneurial attitudes and skills in our society through education at all levels has been on the political agenda and has recently been recognized as one of the new basic skills that should be provided through lifelong learning. The European Commission also encourages Member States to organise activities that focus on Entrepreneurship and at the same time generate public awareness, especially amongst those people who wish to start a business or are already in business and wish to grow and expand their business activities. The Malta SME week is the Maltese contribution towards the European SME week organised by the European Commission. During the European SME week insight is offered into what the EU and national institutions do to support micro, small and medium-sized businesses. The Malta SME Week is held on a yearly basis and amongst other things aims to:
· provide information on what the EU and national, regional and local authorities are offering to support micro, small and medium-sized businesses;

· promote entrepreneurship so that more people, and in particular younger people, seriously consider becoming an entrepreneur as a career option;

· give recognition to entrepreneurs for their contribution to Europe's welfare, jobs, innovation and competitiveness
