Il-Barrakka ta’ Fuq

It’s a public garden built in the 1560s, situated in Valletta, a few metres away from Castile, facing the Grand Harbour.
Here, I decided to transform the Terrace Area facing the Clement Martin Edwards monument into a stained glass piece.

These are some characteristics that were vital to its creation.
• The shadows of the repetitive arches, which are scaling down towards the vanishing point, create depth in the composition.
• The sky gradient is parallel with the diagonal arches wall for continuity.
• The line painting, which features some architectural details that give character and embrace everything together.
• The selected colour palette, where both warm and cool colours were used to balance this piece.

For this non-commissioned work, I crafted a birch plywood frame, and for more stability, I included an 8mm mild steel flat bar as a separated piece that lays at the bottom of the frame. It will be attracted to a set of small magnets that are inserted in the bottom part of the timber frame for even more stability.

Even fish deserve to celebrate Christmas in style!
This nativity scene is painted on glass and fired in a kiln. It is attached to a natural hard stone that serves as a counterweight, carefully chosen to blend in with the aquarium's scenery.
