The proposed Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya (SSP) Line is a traversing line from the North West to the South East direction of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) system that runs through several densely populated urban fabric such as Damansara Damai, Kepong, Batu and Serdang.
The concept and vernacular of the MRT’s station design draws influence from the traditional Malay House. The particular component of the “Serambi” (below) was the receiving porch of the Malaysian home before entering the main hall or living spaces. As a transitional element transcends from traditional Malaysian timber construction vernacular. Hence this particular element lead into the idea of a Serambi theme facade and concourse level.
The materials and finishes chosen were based on the pricing, aesthetics, durability, ease of maintenance, resistance to vandalism and corrosion and availability in the local context.

MRT-ийн станцийн дизайны үндсэн санаанд уламжлалт Малай сууцны төлөвлөлтийн нөлөө орсон. Онцлог хэсэг нь гол танхим, эсвэл зочны өрөөнд орохоосоо өмнө дамжин өнгөрдөг Малайз гэрийн хүлээн авах үүдний танхим юм. Situated in the heart of Bukit Merah, the 9-storey Gateway Theatre is a multi-performance venue containing a vast 1,500-seat auditorium, a sixth-storey roof garden, and a soaring double-volumed black box theatre.

The façade features prominently in the revamped design, where pockets of interwoven landscaped sky gardens cascades to the ground level. Sections of the existing building were retained, and secondary green ‘relief’ spaces were inserted into an otherwise uniform façade to create a sense of porosity that invites community engagement and participation.

For this A&A project, architects resolved to utilise the existing structure and maintain its original orientation. An additional volume was introduced to accommodate extra bedrooms, with a lobby space located at the entrance to connect the old and new sections of the home – unifying the two structures with a homogenous modernist aesthetic. To lighten the home’s structure a recess was placed at the base of the first floor, creating an effect where the two main volumes appear to float on the surface of the Swimming pool.

Private spaces including en-suite bathrooms and balconies are concealed behind strategic ornamentation around the interior. With a viewing range of 270 degrees unveiling a vibrant cityscape skyline, the apartment epitomises modern living at its finest.
