๐นThe futuristic journey of logistics has been affected by the pandemic immensely. It has spurred a huge shift and significant changes in the logistics and manufacturing sector. The changes and overhaul due to the COVID-19 impact on logistics must be a part of the new environment around the globe by considering factors such as resilience, competitiveness and sustainability.
๐ธThe logistics demand rose to an all-time high due to people not being able to step out of homes, which led to several problems like scarcity of containers, new security measures and problems with renewing crews, delays, blockades and much more. This highlighted the weaknesses of the classic schemes of the logistics industry and sped up the transition of logistics towards 4.0. Companies in this industry have been forced to invest in innovation and technology to increase resilience and competitiveness in the coming future.
๐ธWith the pandemic likely coming to an end, the productive system is to be transformed to cater to sustainability and digitization simultaneously. This is where Logistics 5.0 comes into the picture. With the need for both sustainability and digitization, the Logistics 5.0 revolution is required.
However, as Logistics 4.0 separates the operations and works of machines and humans, revolutionaries are propounding the idea of the fifth Industrial Revolution or Logistics 5.0, which will reconcile humans and machines.
๐ธLogistics 5.0 is the proposed response and solution to the 5.0 industry model. And just like Industry 5.0, Logistics 5.0 also focuses on knowledge and sustainability. This is a transition centered on workers and minimizing environmental impact.
๐ธThe idea of Logistics 5.0 prioritizes the environment while integrating it with technological innovations. This concept requires the logistics industry to move in three directions: human factor, resilience, sustainability
๐ธUnder Logistics 5.0, workers are considered an investment in the long term and their well-being and training are a vital concern for the company and its logistics hub. Technologies need to be replaced, added and adapted according to the needs and requirements of the workers. This ensures that the company benefits by attracting better talent to work with and retaining their services in the long run. This makes it clear that the paradigm of Logistics 5.0 involves stepping up the game from Logistics 4.0, where the dependence is on technology, to improve and consider the ecological and social benefits.

๐นGlobal air cargo capacity is almost back to 2019 levels as passenger flights and their bellyhold capacity make a โfundamental returnโ to the market.
๐นAccording to Accentureโs Seabury Cargo, global air cargo capacity was down only 4% between 13 and 26 June, compared with the corresponding pre-Covid period in 2019.
However, Accenture MD Marco Bloemen said the capacity gains had not been uniform and there were โvery largeโ differences between tradelanes.
๐นโAs a consequence, we see a lot of flying from Asia, via the Gulf, into Europe,โ he said on a webinar held by IAG Cargo. โAnd not only by the Middle East carriers, but others are also benefiting, appreciating the detour routes and making a stop in the Gulf.โ
๐นOn the transatlantic, capacity is back to 2019 levels after being down by as much as 50% last year. Mr Bloemen noted that โa lot of widebody passenger aircraft have been deployed on the transatlantic routes, and we anticipate that this number will increase further as we gear up for the summer holiday seasonโ.
He said more than 80% of the worldโs 4,200 widebody passenger aircraft had been affected when Covid hit in 2020.
๐นโThatโs a lot of belly space,โ he added. โBut now itโs returned pretty close to the airline freighter capacity out there, so weโre seeing a fundamental return of the passenger belly capacity.โ
๐นAt the same time, capacity on freighters operated by airlines and integrators is at โmuch higherโ levels than pre-Covid.
