DC shoes Company (1994)

DC Shoes was founded in 1994 in Carlsbad, California, by Ken Block, Damon Way, and Clayton Blehm. The name originally came from “Droors Clothing,” but later it was also associated with initials of famous skaters like Danny Way and Colin McKay. At a time when skate-specific footwear was limited, DC introduced technical shoe designs that changed skateboarding forever. The brand supported a powerful skate team, including legends like Danny Way, Colin McKay, and Rob Dyrdek. Thanks to its innovation in comfort, durability, and performance, DC reached $7 million in sales by 1995. In 2004, Quiksilver acquired DC Shoes for $87 million and moved its headquarters to Huntington Beach. In 2011, DC refreshed its image with a new “flag logo” and a “Rediscovery” marketing campaign. The company also worked with artists like Shepard Fairey, Thomas Campbell, and Phil Frost on limited edition shoes. DC once collaborated with the band Linkin Park to release a special signature skate shoe. Later, DC partnered with skater Lucien Clarke to redesign the classic Lynx shoe under the DCV’87 collection. Even celebrities like Pete Davidson have been seen wearing DCV’87 × DC Lynx sneakers, bringing them into mainstream fashion. Rob Dyrdek worked closely with DC, releasing 29 signature models and building skate plazas with their support. Star skater Nyjah Huston also had his first signature DC shoe released in 2013. Vintage DC pro models like the Rick Howard 1s remain highly sought after among collectors of 1990s skate culture. Today, DC Shoes continues as a leading skate and streetwear lifestyle brand, thriving through athlete endorsements, artist collaborations, and strong cultural influence.
