**Rissani** is one of the oldest historic cities in southeastern Morocco. It is located in Errachidia Province, within the Drâa–Tafilalet region. Rissani is considered the urban continuation of the ancient city of **Sijilmasa**, which was once a major commercial center on the trans-Saharan caravan routes linking North Africa with Sub-Saharan Africa.

The city is characterized by its authentic desert atmosphere, surrounded by vast palm groves that give it a distinctive natural beauty and serve as a main source of livelihood for the local population. Rissani is especially famous for its traditional markets, particularly the **Rissani Souk**, one of the oldest and most well-known markets in the region, offering local products such as dates, spices, handicrafts, and agricultural goods.

Rissani also holds great historical and religious significance, as it is the birthplace of the **Alaouite ruling dynasty**. The shrine of Moulay Ali Cherif is located there, making the city an important destination for visitors interested in Morocco’s history and heritage.

The city preserves a traditional architectural style reflected in its earthen kasbahs and ksour. It is also known for its rich local culture and deep-rooted traditions. Thanks to its proximity to Merzouga and its famous sand dunes, Rissani serves as an important gateway for desert tourism, combining history, culture, and the enchanting beauty of the Sahara.
