Morocco Earthquake Update - Alice Morrison 02/12/2023

An update from my dearest friend Alice on the current situation in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco 10 weeks on from a catastrophic earthquake.
While we all sit in our homes with a fire lighting, a bathroom and other facilities close by... think of the thousands here facing into a bitter winter still living in tents.
My focus now is on raising funds to help rebuild the fruit and nut orchards that bring vital income to communities. Almost 900€ so far in my gofundme and with prices starting from 3€ per sapling your donations however small can make a huge difference. So please, this giving season give the gift of hope.

Morocco Earthquake Update - Alice Morrison This Morocco earthquake update is about how people are coping, rebuilding and preparing for winter as the temperatures drop below zero.

October Update.
I am watching closely what is happening on the ground. The main concern at this time is getting shelter against the coming seasonal rains and snow. Building has started and as women don't yet have homes to manage, they are also helping in the mammoth task of rebuilding.
As I have lived in these villages, I know the seasons, the cycles of life and nature. This is a critical time for them as more lives will surely be lost in the coming winter.
I am also looking forwards. Most of these villages would have fruit and nut orchards which often grow in small plots close to houses, these will have also been destroyed along with much of the livestock. This is a huge part of local income. In early spring sapling trees will need to be planted to restart this vital life line. Animals will be needed. One or two cows provides income for a family, usually only a handful of cows can be afforded in each village. Small flocks of sheep and large flocks of goats are more popular in these mountains. Chicken and Roosters are a common sight. Donkeys and mules are essential for work and transport.
I urge you to donate to wards purchasing these sapling trees and animals to breathe life back into the villages. Just a few euros will purchase trees which sustain lives for generations to come. Every cent is going to make a difference. A handful of chicks can cost as little as €5. If you can afford to, Sponsor a cow or a donkey or club together with friends and sponsor a Mule.
I know there are many disasters worldwide pulling at your purse strings, but this one was unprecedented as it was a shallow earthquake and therefore spread some 500km affecting 7000 villages. I urge you to help if you can. Thank you. Any questions.. you can connect with me on Facebook etc.
