I’ve been thinking about the framework behind my paintings and I feel like they are expressing Passages & Portals. All the roads taken and diverted, serendipitous happenings, interactions with others that lead you in a whole new path... lovers and friends... the actual passage of time.. travel... unexpected events that change your course. Anyway, the arched portals part is entering these sacred new worlds & friendships and time and space. That these passages are meant for us and what would’ve happened had we stayed the course or taken a different route.

For me, I wouldn’t be in Charleston, SC if it weren’t for me saying YES to a retreat over 10 years ago in Costa Rica with my online friend Faith whom I happened to meet after a blogging connection at a camp at Squam lake :)

I wouldn’t met my husband Charlie if I didn’t say yes to our online date... and perhaps wouldn’t have been drawn to my Texan husband if I hadn’t binged Friday Night Lights 🩷

I wouldn’t moved to San Francisco 26 years ago if it weren’t for being randomly matched with my roommate Jessie in college... and so on and so forth.

But then maybe it’s all destined and it would’ve happened!

Can you tell I’ve read a few books lately about time travel?
*The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley is a recent good one!

Sharing some studio porch scenes in process! It’s been a long time since I’ve felt in the flow with art. The last year of moving across the country from Berkeley, CA to Charleston, SC resulted in crunchy art! Everytime I made art in my makeshift studio in our rental house, it felt funky…. which makes sense in retrospect bc I was find in my footing as a human (not to mention the insane state of the world) surrounded by storage bins. Missing my community of 25 years, my art studio & regular grounding hikes 🌳🌲⛰️ My art reflected this by feeling unfamiliar 🙃

Since buying our home in Charleston and feeling more settled in my space & landscape, I finally feel some traction…. but I will not lie it’s been some serious work at showing up and PLAYING.

Part of what really helped was opening up my weekly Playing with Paint circle 6 weeks ago with 10 amazing artists…it has totally been the medicine I needed to buoy me through to the other side. Thank you lovely participants. Create what you most need! shout out ❤️

During this I’ve been sitting with emotional family health hard times too, and it’s intensified my practice of staying present with play. I’m so grateful for a place to metabolize all of this life stuffs. Here’s to all of you out there continuing to show up for your creativity and craft even when it’s feeling janky, especially then 💛🫶🙏🥹 Big love to you out there. I know we’re all moving through so much.
