Medersa Ben Youssef, Marrakech

Discovering a sumptuous place in Marrakech (Morocco).
Founded in the 14th century, this former Koranic school is one of the most beautiful monuments in the city.

The medersa was for four centuries a home for students in various sciences, including theology. It had 132 rooms intended for students not originally from Marrakech.

The courtyard and the prayer room are sumptuously decorated: carved cedar, marble and stucco pay homage to God through quotations from the Koran.
