*"I DON'T MIND" and "I DON'T CARE" are not the same*

Let's talk about this common grammar mistake and see the difference.....

*“I don’t mind”* and *“I don’t care”* are two English expressions that are very similar. But it’s important to understand the difference, because you could easily offend your listener! 😳

Here’s a simple conversation you might have with your friend on a Saturday night.

👉 Friend: Do you want to go out?
👉 You: *I don’t mind*.

Your friend is offering you a choice. You can say yes or no. When you are offered a choice, “I don’t mind” is a polite way to say that you would be happy with either choice.

Now let’s try the same conversation with a different answer:

👉 Friend: Do you want to go out?
👉 You: *I don’t care.*

When you say, *“I don’t care,”* you are telling your friend that what is important to him isn’t important to you. You are not interested in what he wants to do. Usually, “ *I don’t care”* can be a little bit offensive.

So we see that *“I don’t mind” and *“I don’t care”* are not the same, but they can be used in the same situation.
