The second leg of the FIDE Grand Prix is over, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has taken a significant step toward trying to become the challenger for next year’s World Chess Championship match. The Grand Prix Series is at halfway, so that there is still a long way to go before grandmaster from Azerbaijan, or anyone else, will earn the right to play for the title.
