Here's a sweet photo of Gene directing Jimmy Stewart in The Cheyenne Social Club (1970) in July 1969. Like Stewart's co-star Henry Fonda, Gene was much more left-leaning than Stewart. But they respected each other and had fun. Gene offered to adjust the shooting schedule because Stewart's stepson had just been killed in the Vietnam war, but Stewart elected to press on. His close friend, Hank Fonda, helped him along.
