In Lithuania, 13 January is the Day of the Defenders of Freedom.

Thirty-five years ago, on the night of 13 January, unarmed people of Lithuania stood against a brutal attack by Soviet forces. Facing tanks and violence, they stood together with unity and unwavering determination.

Freedom is never something to be taken for granted. Today, we honour and thank all those who defended it then, and all who continue to protect it now.
