According to Morija Museum & Archives “Maseru was founded as a small police camp in 1869, with it's name meaning "Place of Red Sandstone". The camp was after the Free State-Basotho Wars when Basutoland became a British Protectorate. It soon became a thriving market town. Pictured here is Maseru in 1912”
