UPDATE: 🇱🇷Liberia Seizes Record $652 Million in Drugs 😲‼️

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has confiscated illegal drugs worth over US$652 million in just six months, according to Acting Deputy Ernest T. Tarpeh.

This major achievement demonstrates the agency's strong commitment to stopping drug trafficking across Liberia's borders. Additionally, the LDEA has turned over US$1.2 million in drug-related cash to the government, with another US$150,000 deposited in February. Tarpeh emphasized that his officers refuse to misuse drug money, calling it "not good money to eat." The agency was honored at a ceremony in Margibi County for their dedicated work fighting drug crime in the nation.

The Shadow of Corruption; The Fall of Rep. Roland O. Cooper

In the heart of the Republic of Liberia, where the rivers run deep and the forests stretch endlessly, lies Margibi Count a region rich in natural resources, especially Kiafah town, but often overlooked in the political landscape. It is here that Rep. Roland O. Cooper, a long-serving member of the House of Representatives, has been a symbol of hope and progress for the people of District 1. However, beneath the surface of his public image lies a troubling truth that has come to light, shaking the foundations of trust in his leadership.

But recently, allegations of corruption have surfaced, implicating him in East International, a construction company based in the county. East International, known for its involvement in rock mining and infrastructure projects, has been at the centre of a growing controversy.

According to the allegations, Rep. Cooper is a stakeholder in East International, holding a significant share in the company. The company, which was supposed to be a model of corporate responsibility, has been accused of failing to meet its obligations to the community where its concession is located. Instead of investing in sustainable practices, East International has been accused of prioritising profit over people, leading to a cascade of negative consequences for the residents of District 1 Margibi County.

The first sign of trouble was the deterioration of road connectivity. Despite promises within their (MOU) of improved infrastructure, the roads that lead to their company and the surrounding area have become increasingly dangerous, with potholes and poor maintenance leading to frequent accidents. Residents, who once relied on these roads for transportation and trade, now face the frustration of unreliable travel.

Then came the health hazards. The rock mining operations, which were supposed to be conducted with environmental safeguards, have been linked to a rise in respiratory illnesses and other health issues among the local population. The air quality in the area has worsened, with reports of dust and fumes from the elderly.
Air pollution has also become a growing concern. The mining activities have led to the degradation of the surrounding environment,

The allegations against Rep. Cooper are not new. They have been circulating for years, but it was only recently that the full extent of his involvement in East International came to light. According to sources, Cooper has been known to receive kickbacks from the company, which has allowed him to maintain his political influence and secure funding for his cosmetic political inivitive. This has created a system where the interests of the company and the politician are aligned, often at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve.

The fallout from these allegations has been significant. Local leaders and community members have called for an investigation into the matter, demanding transparency and accountability. The people of Margibi County, who once looked up to Rep. Cooper now find themselves questioning the very foundation of their trust in their representatives. As the story unfolds, the community faces a difficult choice: to continue to support a leader who has been accused of corruption, or to demand change and hold him accountable for his actions.
