Chapter 7: Slow and Steady

Eric and Ava’s connection wasn’t rushed. There were no grand gestures, no overwhelming emotions that consumed him like past relationships. Instead, there was something different—ease.

They started running into each other more often. First, at the coffee shop, where Ava teased him about always ordering the same caramel latte. Then, at the bookstore again, where they found themselves reaching for the same novel and laughing about their similar taste in books.

Eventually, their meetings became intentional.

“Hey, I’m going to check out this art exhibit on Saturday,” Ava mentioned one evening over coffee. “Want to come?”

Eric hesitated for only a second before nodding. “Yeah. I’d love that.”

And so, their friendship unfolded naturally, without pressure

With Ava, Eric didn’t feel the anxiety he had always associated with dating. He didn’t spend hours analyzing texts or wondering if she liked him enough.

Instead, they talked about real things.

The books that shaped them.

The mistakes they had made in life and what they had learned.

Their dreams, their fears, their hopes for the future.

Ava was independent, just like Eric had learned to be. She didn’t need someone to complete her, and that made their connection even stronger.

One night, as they walked along the riverfront, Ava turned to him with a thoughtful expression.

“You seem… different,” she said.

Eric raised an eyebrow. “Different how?”

“I don’t know,” she mused. “Like you’re not searching for something anymore. Like you’re at peace with yourself.”

Eric smiled. “I think I finally am.”

Ava studied him for a moment, then smiled back. “That’s rare, you know. Most people never get there.”

Eric shrugged. “It took me a while. But I realized that love isn’t something you chase. It’s something that finds you when you’re already whole.”

Ava nodded, her gaze thoughtful. “I like that.”

And just like that, without force or

Chapter 6: The Universe Moves When You Stop Chasing

Eric didn’t think much about Ava after their brief conversation at the bookstore. That was the surprising part.

Before, he would have obsessed over the encounter—wondered if he should have asked for her number, replayed their conversation in his head, and hoped for fate to bring them together again. But this time, he simply went home, made himself a cup of tea, and started reading The Alchemist.

As he turned the pages, he found himself absorbed in the story, drawn to its message about personal journeys and trusting the universe. And for the first time in a long time, he felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be.

The next few weeks passed in a blur of self-discovery.

He took himself on more solo dates—visiting art galleries, hiking trails, and trying new restaurants.

He focused on his work, pouring his energy into projects he had once neglected.

He deepened his friendships, reconnecting with people he had once pushed aside in his search for romance.

And then, just when he wasn’t expecting it, the universe nudged him again.

It happened at a coffee shop on a quiet Sunday morning. Eric had just sat down with his laptop when he heard a familiar voice.

“You again?”

He looked up, surprised to see Ava standing beside his table, holding a steaming cup of coffee.

Eric chuckled. “Guess we both have good taste in bookstores and coffee shops.”

Ava grinned. “Mind if I join you?”

He gestured to the empty chair across from him. “Be my guest.”

As they talked, Eric noticed something different about himself. He wasn’t nervous. He wasn’t trying to impress her or hoping for a romantic spark. He was simply present, enjoying the conversation for what it was.

Ava was easy to talk to—witty, insightful, and full of stories about her travels and love for books. And yet, Eric didn’t feel the old, desperate need to make her like him.

That’s when he realized something powerful—he didn’t need her to complete him, because he was already whole.

And maybe that’s why, for the first time in his life, something real was beginning to unfold.

Chapter 5: When Love Stops Being the Goal

Eric’s days were no longer filled with the exhausting search for love. Instead, they were filled with himself—his passions, his growth, and the quiet moments of joy he had once overlooked.

It had been two months since that night when he asked God, When is my turn to be happily in love? And though he still wanted love one day, he no longer felt desperate for it.

One evening, after work, Eric decided to visit a bookstore. He had developed a habit of rewarding himself with small things—a good book, a cup of coffee, and a quiet walk—things that made him happy without needing someone else to make them special.

As he browsed the shelves, a voice beside him said, “That’s a great choice.”

Eric turned to see a woman smiling at him, pointing at the book in his hands—The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

“It’s one of my favorites,” she said.

Eric smiled back. “I’ve heard good things about it, but I’ve never read it.”

“You should,” she said. “It’s all about self-discovery and finding your own path in life.”

Eric raised an eyebrow. How fitting.

“I’m Ava,” she said, extending her hand.

“Eric.” He shook her hand, feeling a surprising sense of ease. In the past, he would have overanalyzed the moment, wondered if she was interested, if this was fate. But this time, he wasn’t looking for anything—he was just being.

They ended up talking about books for the next ten minutes, and as Eric walked out of the bookstore with The Alchemist in hand, he smiled to himself.

He wasn’t thinking about whether Ava was “the one.” He wasn’t overthinking or making plans.

For the first time in his life, love was no longer his goal.

And that’s when love started finding its way to him.

Chapter 2: Facing the Mirror

The next morning, Eric couldn’t shake the words from his mind. Love yourself. But how? He had spent his whole life searching for love outside of himself.

He stood in front of his bathroom mirror, looking at his own reflection. He saw tired eyes, a weary heart, and a man who had never truly been happy alone.

That day, he decided to make a change. Instead of scrolling through social media, comparing his life to others, he went for a walk in the park. Instead of texting his ex, hoping for closure, he picked up an old book he had always wanted to read. Instead of waiting for someone to validate his worth, he started writing a list of things he liked about himself.

It felt strange at first, but something within him started shifting.

Chapter 1: The Question That Changed Everything

Eric sat on a park bench, watching the golden hues of the sunset blend with the city skyline. Couples strolled hand in hand, laughter echoing around him. He sighed, gripping his coffee cup, the warmth barely comforting his cold loneliness.

Why is love so easy for everyone else but me? He had done everything right—been kind, loyal, and open-hearted—yet love seemed to elude him. His last relationship had ended six months ago, and he still felt the sting of rejection.

That night, lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, he whispered a prayer, his voice barely audible.

“When is my turn to be happily in love?”

A deep silence filled the room, and just as he was about to drift into sleep, a voice, gentle yet powerful, echoed in his mind.

“When you love yourself rather than expecting others to love you.”

Eric shot up in bed, his heart pounding. Had he imagined it? Or was it really an answer from above? He had never thought about love in that way before.

Little did he know, this was the beginning of a journey that would change his life forever.
