The Ministry of Mines and Energy has intensified its nationwide compliance monitoring with a high-level inspection of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s mining operations in Yekepa, focusing on workplace safety, environmental protection, and adherence to licensing terms.

Minister of Mines and Energy R. Matenokay Tingban led the delegation of senior officials during Tuesday’s tour, as part of government’s ongoing efforts to assess mining companies across Liberia and ensure alignment with national regulations and international standards.

Minister Tingban emphasized that safe working conditions for employees and the welfare of affected communities remain central to the government’s mining policy.

He told ArcelorMittal management that compliance with Liberia’s mining laws and global safety benchmarks is “a key priority, not an option.”

The delegation toured various production areas at the Yekepa site and engaged company officials on issues ranging from occupational safety and environmental safeguards to overall operational compliance.

According to the Ministry, the monitoring exercise is designed to evaluate the performance of mining operators, identify sector challenges, and ensure companies honor commitments made to the Government of Liberia and citizens.
ArcelorMittal Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Company officials highlighted ongoing investments in employee welfare, occupational health, and sustainable mining practices, and pledged closer collaboration with government regulators.

Two officials of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Deputy Director for Administration Col. Emmanuel K. Farr and Special Assistant to Director G. Warsuwah Barvoul, Sr. Roland B. Davis, are currently participating in the African Capacity Development and Research Institute (ACADRI) Conference in Pretoria, South Africa.
The conference is being held under the theme: “Integrating AI Across Sector Leadership, Finance, ICT, Procurement, and Human Resources.”

The event focuses on how digitization and artificial intelligence are transforming public sector operations through streamlined processes, data-driven decision-making, and improved efficiency, accountability, and transparency in service delivery.
