Integrity Watch Liberia (IWL) is pleased to announce the award of a European Union–funded project titled:
“Strengthening Inclusive Participation, Human Rights Protection and Corporate Accountability in Liberia’s Forestry and Extractive Sectors.”
Valued at over €321,000, the project will be implemented over a 24-month period from January 2026 to December 2027 in Nimba, B**g, Bomi, and Gbarpolu Counties, with Integrity Watch Liberia as the Lead Applicant, in partnership with the Foundation for Community Initiative (FCI) as Co-Applicant.
The project is funded under the EU Thematic Programme for Civil Society Organisations, Human Rights and Democracy in Liberia, and seeks to contribute to:
🔹 Strengthening inclusive participation of communities and rights-holders
🔹 Advancing human rights protection in Liberia’s forestry and extractive sectors
🔹 Promoting corporate accountability through effective implementation of national and international Business & Human Rights frameworks
🔹 Enhancing the capacity of civil society, duty-bearers, and affected communities to demand and uphold accountability
Importantly, this EU-funded initiative builds on and complements the Irish Embassy’s €600,000 funding commitment to Integrity Watch Liberia under the project “Strengthening Inclusive Governance and Accountability in Liberia’s Natural Resources Sector, Phase II,” approved in August 2025. Together, these investments reflect a sustained and strategic approach to strengthening inclusive governance, accountability, and human rights protection in Liberia’s natural resource sectors.
Integrity Watch Liberia expresses its deep appreciation to the European Union for the confidence reposed in our organisation to lead this important initiative. We also acknowledge the continued support of the Irish Embassy, whose partnership has been instrumental in advancing transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in natural resource governance.
Through these complementary initiatives, IWL remains committed to promoting inclusive participation, human rights protection, and corporate accountability, ensuring that Liberia’s forestry and extractive sectors contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and improved livelihoods.
