Open to Learn - Liberia

After volunteering in the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana, I saw how simple it was for a person from a developed economy to help those living in poverty. After returning back to life in Hong Kong, I kept in contact with Brownell Paelay, a friend I met on the camp, who had a passion for doing the right thing for his community. When Liberia was declared safe, a large number of refugees returned to their country and embarked on a effort to rebuild the country from scratch, after much of the infrastructure had been destroyed during the 14 years civil war. Pealay contacted me and we discussed the idea of building a school to help street kids and other less fortunate get back to school (education) and there started Open to Learn. since 2010 to 2021, we have been able to provide Free education for over 6,000 children ranging from 3 years to 18 years Up to Grade 6th. We are now partnering with Save the Children, USAID, Mercy Crop and Read Liberia. We now provide cooked meal daily and take home ration for girls. We seek sponsorship from corporations and individuals to help run and build the school.
