Meet Sarath Thewarahennapitiya, the owner of Sarath Books, which is the most popular second-hand bookshop located in Maradana.
Sarath’s uncle, who was previously a sailor in the Sri Lanka Navy, started this business in 1952. They began selling books at the Colombo Book Fair. Later on, the Colombo Municipal Council helped his uncle by providing some huts to sell books, allowing the business to expand and attract more customers. After some time, Sarath took over the company and named the bookstore "Sarath Books".
Today, with an impressive legacy of over 45 years in the trade of both new and pre-owned books, Sarath Books is home to an extensive inventory of over 50,000 books. The bookstore offers both fiction and non-fiction, earning them a devoted following among book enthusiasts.
Sarath Books has always won customers' hearts by providing the best prices and the most hospitable customer service, a tradition that they've upheld for years.
