In earlier times.Hirton Plains was home to herds of elephants,however hunting in coloniel times for reward and sport ended elephant habitation.

The falls were named after one such coloninal hunter named Sir Samuel Baker.He was Known for killing and chasing out the elephants in Horton Plains.He wrote a book to record his hunting,numbers and details during his time in ceylon - "The Rifle and Hound in ceylon (1853)" help play apart in returning the enviornment to it's natural state and share your efforts with and teaching the youth about the reality of pollution is part of the solution to a future for the enviornment.
