Can You Use CFL Bulbs in a Dimmable Fixture?
Compact fluorescent lamps, also known as CFL bulbs, are an energy-efficient substitute for the traditional incandescent light bulb. They use about 75 percent less energy to produce the same light output and screw into standard light fixtures. They produce light in the same fashion as a conventional, straight fluorescent tube, but the tube on CFLs is folded so it can fit into incandescent-type light fixtures. Dimmable fixtures can present a problem for standard CFL bulbs.
Not for Dimmers
A standard CFL bulb can’t be used in a dimmable fixture. The packaging for standard CFL bulbs warns against using the bulb with a dimmer. If you try to dim a standard CFL, the bulb will flash, flicker or go out. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association warns that dimming standard CFLs will greatly shorten bulb life and may damage the dimmer switch.
Dimmable CFLs
Dimmable CFL bulbs are available, and they can be dimmed down to about 20 percent of full light output without problems. These bulbs come in packaging that states their compatibility with dimmers. Because dimming CFL bulbs are designed to work with dimmer switches, they will not harm the bulb or the dimmer switch.
RFID Access Controls
Access control systems provide authorized individuals safe and secure access in and out of various parts of your business while keeping unauthorized people out. They can range from electronic keypads that secure a single door to large networked systems for multiple buildings. Access Systems also greatly simplify management of your facility: no need to replace lost keys, hunt down old keys from terminated employees, or wonder who has access to which areas.
